Joel is asked by a dying friend to look after Ellie, a fourteen-year-old girl with courage beyond her years. What starts out as a simple job to deliver Ellie to another Quarantine Zone, soon transforms into a struggle to persevere. They must learn to trust each other and work together in order to survive the realities of this new world.
I served as Technical Designer on The Last of, I was responsible constructing interactions between characters and environments that extended beyond the scope of our core AI/game play systems. My contributions were widely varied and included
- Coordinating multiple companion characters to explore non-linear areas while maintaining conversation and triggering player-prompted vignettes.
- Synchronizing and configuring multiple systems to present positionally plausible ambient wind.
- Creating AI for a turret-mounted vehicle that was used as a one-off obstacle in a combat setup.
- Controls and pacing for a fast-paced transitional moment that utilized one-off horseback riding mechanics.
